Navigating North Hope Zoo: A Pattern Driven Environment

Enhancing the zoo experience through environmental and pictogram design. This mock zoo system blends inspiration from the natural patterns found with each animals environment for a vibrant and intuitive wayfinding journey.

Goal

Build a playful yet informal pictogram and EGD system that goes beyond standard wayfinding into memorable environmental touchpoints that balance intuitive navigation with expressive, pattern-driven storytelling?

problem

Standard wayfinding lacks the visual storytelling needed to create a memorable visitor experience.

01
Early Iterations & Developments

The oval composition was inspired by organic forms to reinforce the zoo's connection to nature.

The directional shape also allows each pictogram to face forward, helping the icons subtly guide visitors while maintaining a cohesive visual language.

02
User Journey

For this project I was able to create mock ups through adobe and AI Imaging. I find using these platforms in this way provides me greater understanding of the users journey and how audiences might experience the spaces.

How might visitors of the zoo...
Gain information about the animals?
Stay engaged with the zoo’s values?
Plan their day & Not get lost?

03
Social Media Marketing

This photo booth arch design was created as a way to transcend the design system into avenues for social media.

My goal was to create visual familiarity for those physically within the zoo and those online.

takeaways

Spatial UX: I learned to think beyond the screen and consider how a user interacts with design in a physical, 360-degree environment.
Innovative Workflows: I worked to successfully experiment with blending traditional Adobe Illustrator 3D rendering and AI imaging to visualize concepts realistically in context.
